Steven McCullum Obituary

Steven Alton McCullum, 55, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 2, 2021, while holding the love of his life Tammy's hand, at Columbus Regional Healthcare System at 3:40 PM. Born November 28, 1965 at Fort Benning, GA, son of Ralph J. “R.J.” and Kathryn (Housand) McCullum.

Steven was a fun-loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and beloved friend. Steven was a proud graduate of Belmont Abbey College, with a Bachelor’s of Art. He was a decorated Army Veteran, a decorated Charlotte Firefighter, and brilliant artist. He was incredibly loving, kind, and true to all he encountered throughout his life.

 

Survivors include his parents; wife, the love of his life, Tammy McCullum of Whiteville, whom he married in 2011; three daughters, Brandyn (Robbie) Raber of Little River, SC Savannah (Jack) Overcash of Boiling Spring Lakes, NC and Hannah (Chris) Mahaley of Lincolnton, NC; two sons, Tristan McCullum of Whiteville, NC and Houston (Leehe) Stegall of Weaverville, NC; 5 grandchildren Noah, Juniper, Eliana, Lila, and Mickey whom he loved very much; and brother Jon Michael McCullum of Lowland, NC.

 

He was preceded in death by his brother, David McCullum.

 

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 9th, 2021 at Whiteville United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service at the church. There will be a Celebration of Life at Sophie's Cafe in Whiteville, after the service, starting at 6:00 PM (616 S. Madison St., Whiteville, NC). Masks will be optional, and social distancing may, or may not be observed, due to attendance at the service.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made through donations to The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte  ( dsagreatercharlotte.org ), Special Olympics of North Carolina ( sonc.net ), or Community CPR ( commcpr.org )
