Nakina, NC
Paul McLennon Long, age 88, of Nakina, NC, passed away quietly Friday, June 12, 2020, surrounded by family at Angel House Hospice, Whiteville, NC. Born August 26, 1931 in Columbus County, NC, he was the son of the late Fletcher McLennon Long and Versie Watts Long.
Paul was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. After he completed his military service, Paul became a very well-known and sought-after tugboat and dredge boat captain.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Gervais Long Long of Nakina, NC; three daughters: Frankie Lynn Long-Martin of Nakina, NC, Donna Long of Whiteville, NC and Vicky Long Faulk and husband James C. Faulk, Jr. of Tabor City, NC; two sons: Paul Kenneth Long of Nakina, NC and Ricky Ray Long and wife Michelle of Nakina, NC; one brother: Oliver Long of Grass Valley, CA; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Betty Long Phillips; and son in law Richard W. “Pappy” Martin.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, June 15, 2020 in the Pireway Primative Baptist Church Cemetery, 14359 Swamp Fox Hwy E., Tabor City, NC. Elder Ernest Duncan will be officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the cemetery.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing will be observed and the family encourages all attendees to wear a mask.
