Ila (Hardee) Wright

Tabor City, NC

Ila Virginia Wright passed away Sunday, April 16th in N. Wilkesboro, NC at the age of 90.  Her two sons and family were taking care of her alongside Hospice. Her home was in North Myrtle Beach, SC.  She had been suffering from cancer since diagnosed in 2022.

She was born on March 16, 1933.  Ila was the daughter of the late John Harvey Hardee and Carrie McCumbee Hardee of Tabor City NC.

Ila began her long career in cosmetology in 1962 in Florence SC where she completed her training.  She worked in Myrtle Beach, SC several years, later moved to Tabor City, NC and built a small Beauty Salon next door to her home.  Ila built a clientele of people she had known most of her life.

In the 1980’s Ila had a residence in N. Myrtle Beach and started work at the Myrtle Beach Manor Beauty Salon; she was there for many years, enjoyed her time there among many very good friends before she retired in 1999.

Ila was a member of Bible Fellowship Baptist Church.  Pastor Anthony Poston was so special to her- she enjoyed worshipping there.  She will be missed by her dear family, her church family, and the many friends that loved her.

Ila is preceded in death by her son, Stephen Dale Wright, grandchild, Megan Wright, sister, Eva Mae Wallace, brother, Eugene Hardee, and nephew, Jerry Pope.

Ila is survived by two sons, Stan Wright of N. Wilkesboro, NC and Myrtle Beach SC and Charles Wright (Alicia Burr) of N. Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Dustin Wright (Brooke Wright),  Emily Cox (Marcus Cox), Krystal Williams (Joey), Angelica Burr (Austin Elledge), Zeb Wright (Candice Wright), and Cole Wright; great-grandchildren, Carter Cox, Camden Cox, Jonah Wright, Beau Wright,  Wade Wright, Clay and Oliver Elledge, and Austin and Mallory Williams; one sister, Gray Ostrom of Atlanta; and nieces; Gayle Maloney (David Maloney) of Nashville, TN and Laura Matthews (Edward Matthews) of Atlanta, GA. Ila is also survived by special friends, Jean Frye, Carolyn Herring, Linda Long, Gayle Memory, and Renee Long.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 22nd in the Inman Ward Funeral Home chapel, with burial to follow in Pireway at the Hardee/Benton Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1:00-1:45 PM in the chapel.
